Oil prices rose slightly today and briefly hit a fresh 18-month high, as the market found support from a recent batch of encouraging economic indicators in the United States, the world's largest energy consumer. New York's main contract, light sweet crude rose 22 cents to close at 86.84 dollars.London's Brent North Sea crude added 27 cents to settle at 86.15 dollars.
