Government on Thursday said that India's oil refining capacity will increase by over 60 per cent to 310.86 million tonnes in the next 5 years. Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy said this in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
He said that two new refineries have been commissioned in Orissa and Punjab which will help enhancing the oil refining capacity. He said that at present, the capacity of oil refineries in the country is 193.386 million tonnes per annum. Mr Reddy also said that State owned oil companies like IOC, HPCL. BPCL and ONGC are also expanding the refining capacities of their units.
