Oil production from Barmer Basin touches 10Cr barrels

Oil production from Barmer basin of Rajasthan has touched 10 Crore barrel this year. Cairn energy has been producing crude oil from 2 oil wells of Thar desert for the last 2 years. According to Cairn, 1,75,000 barrel oil is being produced per day from this area and production from one more oil well will start soon. Our correspondent reports that Mangla and Bhagyam are the 2 oil wells in barmer district .Cairn is producing 150000 barrel oil from Mangla and 25000 barrel oil from Bhagyam oil fields daily.Cairn has invested 349 Cr USD on these oil fields so far.Oil producing from Thar desert is now fulfilling about 25 percent of countries oil requirement and it has reduced the expenditure on oil import by 9 billon USD.The Government has also received 3 billion USD as royalty and tax from cairn.Now Rajasthan Government,ONGC and Cairn are planning for a detailed joint survey for search of hydrocarbon in barmer basin.Oil from barmer to refineries of Gujrat is being supplied by a 590 kms heated pipe line.According to Cairn One more oil well Aishvarya will also start production in this financial year.Anurag Vajpeyi AIR News Jaipur.
