Oil prices rise in Asian trade

Oil prices rose in Asian trade today after escalation in the Ukraine crisis. Analysts say that the crisis could potentially cause a disruption in gas supply and send energy prices soaring. US benchmark, West Texas Intermediate for delivery in July, rose two cents to 104.37 US dollars in late-morning trade. Brent North Sea crude for July delivery rose 23 cents to 110.55 US dollars per barrel.Financial markets in the United States and Britain were closed ysterday for public holidays.A fierce battle erupted in the rebel-held eastern belt ofUkraine today, just hours after president-elect Petro Poroshenko vowed he would not let the country become another Somalia.
