Oil prices higher in Asian trade

Oil prices edged higher in Asian trade today as investors anticipate a fall in US crude inventories for the third consecutive week, indicating upbeat demand in the world's top consumer. New York's main contract, West Texas Intermediate for January delivery, was up 19 cents at 97.41 dollar in mid-morning trade while Brent North Sea crude for February gained 12 cents to 108.56 dollar.
