Oil prices down in Asian trade

Oil prices were weaker in Asian trade on Tuesday after overnight gains on the back of a weak dollar and a stronger finish on Wall Street, analysts said. New York's main futures contract, light sweet crude for delivery in March, fell 21 cents to USD 75.05 a barrel. London's Brent North Sea crude for March delivery dropped nine cents to settle at USD 73.60. During Monday trading, the benchmark New York futures contract had dipped as low as USD 74.06 in opening trade before climbing during the remainder of the session. A slight weakening of the dollar was a factor behind the jump in prices yesterday. With a weak US currency, dollar-priced oil becomes relatively cheaper for buyers using stronger currencies.
