Oil prices slumped today on fresh economic strains in Europe and amid expectations of a cease-fire between Israel and Gaza. New York's main contract, WTI light sweet crude for delivery in January, slid 2.53 dollars from Monday to 86.75 dollars a barrel. Brent North Sea crude for January shed 1.87 dollars to 109.83 dollars a barrel in London trade.
