Internatinoally acclaimed Odissi dance guru Padmashree Gangadhar Pradhan passed away at Bhubaneswar early this morning. He was 62. A few days back, he was admitted into a private hospital in Bhubaneswar with a hemorrhage in the brain and cardiac problem. Later, he had slipped into coma. Guru Gangadhar Pradhan was conferred awards like Odissa Sangeet Natak Academy in 1993, Central Sangeet Natak Academy in 1998 and Padmashree for his contributions to make Odissi popular at international level in 2008. His body will be taken to Gangadhar Foundation premises, Utkal Sangeen Mahavidyalaya, Konark and later to his native village at Parikula in Brahmagiri of Puri district in Orissa for the public and followers to pay their last respect. The funeral will be held in Swargadwar of Puri later today. Many eminent persons have condoled the death of Guru Gangadhar Pradhan.Meanwhile, the followers of Guru Gangadhar Pradhan ransacked the private hospital where the eminent Odissi guru was under treatment. They alleged that the guruji was not give proper treatment and his body was kept outside the hospital after his death.
