Odisha: Second phase Panchayat polls concludes peacefully

In Odisha, polling for the second phase of three-tier Panchyatiraj institutions ended today peacefully except reports of some minor violent incidents.Polling was held in 197 Zilla Parishad zones and 1475 Gram Panchayats under 83 blocks in 30 districts of the state.Besides special security arrangements were made in Maoist-infested areas and sensitive booths during polling. The next phases of the three-tier Panchayat polls will be held on February 15, 17 and 19. The counting of votes will be held after the polls and the results will be declared by the concerned presiding officers at the booth level.Meanwhile, in a significant move, the state government has decided not to allow any liquor shops on either side of national highways in the state. This decision will be come into force from 1st of April this year. The decision is aimed at preventing accidents on national highways due to intoxicated driving.
