In Orissa, Women and Child Development Minister Pramila Mallick has resigned. Her resignation comes in the wake of allegation of a 700-crore rupees scam in the purchase of dal for mid-day meal scheme and Supplementary in that Nutrition Programme – SNC. Pramila mallick said in Bhubaneswar that she had resigned on her own on moral grounds. Her department is the nodal agency to provide dal to about 9.5 million beneficiaries including 5 million school children. The Odisha Chief Minister has forwarded her resignation Governor Bhandare for acceptance. He has also directed to file chargesheet against collector of Deogarh and a former collector of Mayurbhanj district along with transfer of Collector of Balasore district. Oppostion Congress and BJP have asked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take responsibility for the scam and tender resignation. Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Bhupinder Singh, told AIR at Bhubaneswar that Naveen Patnaik should not only tell his ministers to resign but should apply the same formula on himself. He alleged that the Chief Minister is involved in mega scams like mining, land, coal and now the dal scam. He said the Lok Pal and Odisha High Court have already pointed fingures towards Naveen Patnaik on Vedanta University land scam and the multi-crore mining scam. Odisha BJP president and former Tribal Affairs Minister, Jual Oram, also asked Naveen's resignation. He said the entire dal scam was going on with the knowledge of Naveen Patnaik. Senior Biju Janata Dal leader, Pramila Mallick, who resigned from Cabinet today, has blamed her own partymen for the decision. She said some BJD party leaders have hatched a 'political conspiracy' against her to malign her credibility. In her reaction to media persons at Bhubaneswar soon after tendering the papers, Pramila claimed that the state vigilance department has given a clean chit to her in the dal scam.
