Puri in Odisha became the first city in the country to implement the Drink from Tap project. This was stated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while inaugurating the project yesterday said , Puri is now placed in the big league of global cities like London, New York and Singapore in providing potable water directly from the tap. The project will benefit about 2.5 lakh residents of Puri city in addition to about two crore tourists who visit the holy city every year.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #000000;">The Drink from Tap project saves people from botheration of either storing or filtering water before consumption.  This apart, the project will also spare the tourist from using water bottles thereby offloading about 400 metric tons of plastic waste from the pilgrim city of Puri. Under the project, which was completed in 9 months, water fountains have been set up in about 400 sites in the city.</span><br />
