The Odisha hostage crisis has further deepened with the issue of fresh communication by Maoists. The Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of the CPI (Maoists) which abucted ruling BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka has demanded release of 30 prisoners to pave way for the legislator's release.In a fresh letter issued to the media, senior leader of the Committee, Jagabandhu, asked Hikaka's wife to reach Balipeta in Maoist-hit Narayanpatna in Koraput district of Odisha tomorrow with the 30 prisoners, including 23 people whose release Odisha Government had decided to facilitate. He has also asked the MLA's wife to accompany the two Maoist-nominated mediators, BD Sharma and Dandapani Mohanty and lawyer Nihar Ranjan Patnaik.The letter written in Telugu said the abducted 37-year-old MLA would only be handed over to his family if they do not bring any police or intelligence officials with them. Hikaka's wife has said she was not aware of any such letter to her. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has, however, said all the confusion on the release of prisoners will be cleared very soon as legal opinions on their release are being taken. He once again appealed to the Maoists to release their hostages on humanitarian groundsThe extended deadline by the two Maoist groups for release of the two hostages is coming to an end tomorrow.
