Odisha Home Secy says mediators satisfied with response of state govt

Odisha Home Secretary UN Behera has said, the mediators are satisfied with the response of the State Government on eight of the fourteen demands put forward by the Maoists for release of Malkangiri district magistrate and collector R Vineel Krishna and junior engineer Pabitra Mohan Majhi. Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneshwar on Monday evening, he said, rest of the six demands will be taken up in the final round of discussion between the State Government and negotiators to be held on Tuesday. Mr.Behera said, the mediators, Prof Haragopal, Prof R Someswar Rao and Dandapani Mohanty have also assured that the health condition of Krishna and Majhi is good. He expressed confidence that the Malkangiri collector and junior engineer will be released soon.Meanwhile, the Odisha committee of CPI (Maoists) called a one-day Odisha bandh on Monday asking the Odisha Government to meet all the demands for release of Malkangir district magistrate and collector and junior engineer. The bandh partially affected normal life in Maoist-affected districts of the state. Earlier, briefing newsmen at Bhubaneswar, International General Secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Praveen Togadia has cautioned the Odisha Government not to bow down to the pressure of Maoists. He said if the Government accepts the demands of Maoists, they will make an armed rebellion in the country like that in neighbouring Nepal. He alleged Odisha Government of being soft towards the Maoists. The bail petition of Ganti Prasad, one of the top Maoists leader wanted in the negotiation process by the Maoists, and four others have been moved on Monday in Odisha High Court. Similarly, the hearing for bail petition of Sriramulu Srinivas, whom the Maoists want to be freed as a pre-condition, will come up for hearing in the fast track court of Malkangiri on Tuesday.
