The Odisha Government has asked the Jagatsinghpur district administration to remove all hurdles in carrying out ancilliary works for the Rs 52,000 crore Posco project through negotiations with the protesting pro-Posco activists and local villagers. Odisha's Industries, Steel and Mines Minister, Raghunath Mohanty, told AIR correspondent at Bhubaneswar that the oppostion by pro-Posco activists and the local villagers are 'short-term' and will be settled down soon. He said the Odisha Government is aware of the six-point charter of demands by the United Action Committee (UAC), a platform of pro-Posco activists. He further said the renewal of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Odisha Government and South Korean steel major Posco for the Rs 52,000 crore project, the biggest foreign direct investment in India, is being delayed due to some technicalities and hoped it will be renewed by July 15. Meanwhile, pro-Posco activists and local villagers of Nuagaon and Noliasahi have stopped cutting of trees by administration. Supporters of Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), an-anti Posco body, have blocked the entry point to the project area at Nuagaon. They have also been sitting on dharna since one month at the outskirts of Gobindpur, a bastion of anti-Posco activists. Source said, the Jagatsinghpur district administration has called a meeting with UAC tomorrow to break the deadlock over project work. Work for the project has been stopped for five consecutive days due to protest by local villagers.
