Odisha Government has passed a resolution to request the Centre to accord classical status to Odishi music. The resolution was passed in the Heritage Cabinet meeting held yesterday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Government of Odisha has already recognised it as a classical form of music since 2008. After Odishi dance and Odia language, now is the turn for Odishi music to claim classical status.<br />'' <br />''While the world famous odissi dance had been granted the classical status by the government of India way back in 1964, Odia language had to see many of ups and downs before settling down as a classical language in 2014. Odishi music lovers too have been batting for its classical uniqueness since long. Odishi music, besides being of ancient origin also enjoys 'Shastric' specificities to be eligible as a classical genre-  an official release said. <br />
