In Odisha, the death toll in devastating flood has increased to 20. Nine more persons are reported to have been swept away or drowned in flood waters, their bodies are yet to be traced. The flood situation continues to be grim as millions of marooned people are yet to be evacuated. Though water has started receding in Mahanadi and its tributaries, half of the over 25 lakh affected people are yet to return to their homes. A large number of villages have become inaccessible as flood water has done excessive damage to road communication. As many as 3973 villages and 15 cities have been badly affected in the current flood in 19 of the 30 districts in the state. Damage reports of 24,429 houses have so far been received from about 11 districts of Odisha. Four helicopters of Indian Navy and Indian Air Force have been engaged in air dropping of food materials in the flood affected areas. The formation of another low pressure ara over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas have created panic among the affected people. According to Bhubaneswar Meterological centre, rain and thundershower is likely to occure at many places over coastal Odisha and at a few places over interior parts of the state. Heavy rain might occur at one or two places over coastal districts during next two days.Meanwhile, the opposition Congress and BJP have raised serious allegations against the state government for mismanaging the flood situation.
