In Odisha, police today arrested Congress MLA Ramesh Jena in connection with a shootout at a residential apartment complex at Bhubaneswar. The MLA represents Sanakhemundi assembly constituency in Ganjam district of Odisha. He was arrested at Bada adanga village in Brahmagiri, about 80 km from Bhubaneswar. The MLA is likely to be produced at a Bhubaneswar court today.Earlier, the Police had arrested six alleged criminals from the residence of the MLA on 1st of February this year at Bhubaneswar after a brief encounter. The MLA was present inside the house when the alleged criminals were arrested. However, the Congress legislator pleaded he didn't know the criminals and the entire episode was 'politically motivated'. MLA Ramesh Jena is out on a bail from Orissa High Court on a murder case.Meanwhile, supporters of Ramesh Jena had errupted large-scale violence in Berhampur of Ganjam district for which police had to resort to mild lathi-charge. They also blocked the busy Berhampur-Aska road protesting the MLAs arrest.
