A series of functions were organised in several parts of the country to mark the Odisha Day celebrations. Odisha was formed on this day in 1936. Last month Parliament passed a bill to rename Orissa as Odisha and made an amendment in the constitution to rename Oriya language as Odia.A movement to form a separate state for Odia speaking people began in 1901, which was finally materialised in 1936.
