Odisha Assembly witnesses uproar scenes over 'dal scam'

The Odisha Legislative Assembly (OLA) witnessed uproar scenes on Monday over the multi-crore 'dal scam' with opposition Congress and BJP members demanding resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The house had to be adjourned six times and finally till Tuesday.Opposition leader Bhupinder Singh alleged that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and his government are trying to supress a sensitive issue like 'dal scam'. He said adulterated and low quality 'dal' was supplied to lakhs of children and pregnant women of Odisha under the Mid-Day Meal and Special Nutrition Programme schemes. The opposition members also alleged the Chief Minister has gone back on his promise to order probe in the 'dal scam' in all the 30 districts of Odisha and present reports of the vigilance inquiry into the scam in five districts. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Raghunath Mohanty said the Government is ready for discussion over the 'dal scam'.However, this couldn't pacify the agitated opposition members who rushed to the well of the house and shouted anti-government slogans leading the adjournment of the house time and again.
