Odisha Assembly witnesses unruly scenes

The Odisha Legilsative Assembly witnessed very unruly scenes on Tuesday with opposition Congress MLAs climbing the Speaker's podium during the question hour. Things worsened when a Congress MLA jumped to the Speaker's table and slept on it while others kept on shouting slogans demanding resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over Odisha High Court's judgement on illegal acquisition of land for Vedanta University at Puri-Konark marine drive. Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat has to adjourn the house four times. The house was finally adjourned till Wednesday. AIR correspondent reports, pandomonium prevailed in Odisha Legislative Assembly on Tuesday as opposition Congress members climbed on Speaker's podium during the question hour. Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat was forced to adjourn the house when a Congress MLA jumped to Speaker's table and slept on it. The entire opposition Congress members kept onshouting anti-Naveen Patnaik government slogans on the well of the house every time the house convenes after the adjournment. The speaker has to adjourn the house for four times as every time the Congress members were trying to take the speaker's podium into their control. The opposition Congress has been stalling the house since more than a week demanding resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the land acquisition by his government for Vedanta University at Puri-Konar marine drive following the Odisha High Court terming the process as 'illegal' and 'malafide'. Meanwhile, the Congress party also organised a huge rally in front of the Assembly demanding dismissal of Naveen Patnaik government over the issue. Union Ministers V Narayan Swami, Srikant Jena and many senior leaders, MPs and MLAs addressed the gathering.
