ODISHA

In Odisha, Governor Dr SC Jamir hoisted the national flag and took salute at the colourful state-level Republic Day function held at Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also unfurled the tri-colour at a function held at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. After taking salute at an impressive parade, Mr Patnaik said democracy had been strengthened after India's independence.

He said people have faith in democracy and they have become more aware of their rights. The Odisha Chief Minister also said the accountability of the administration has increased and the faith of people in secular values has grown. Mr Patnaik called upon the people to protect democratic and secular values. Meanwhile, Maoists have put up posters and banners at a few places in the southern districts of Odisha asking people to boycott the Republic Day celebrations. However, there has been no untoward incidents so far in these districts. The celebrations were peaceful in Maoist active areas of Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada districts.
