Sri Lanka booked their place in the finals of the tri-nation ODI Cricket series as they beat Australia by 9 runs in their last league match of the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. Electing to bat after winning the toss, Sri Lanka put up a modest 238 runs in the stipulated 50 overs and then bowled out the hosts for 229 in 49.1 overs. The Australian chase was guided well by stand-in skipper Shane Watson who scored 65 runs and David Hussey's fighting 74. For Sri Lanka, LD Chandimal was the highest scorer with 75. For Australia, Dan Christian took a career best 5 for 31 including a hat-trick . For Sri Lanka, Lasith Malinga picked four wickets. Both Australia and Sri Lanka now have 19 points each and will clash in the best of three finals, the first of which begins at Bisbane on Sunday.
