Odd-even plan implementation: Union Home Ministry advises various steps to Delhi Govt

The Union Home Ministry has advised various steps to the Delhi Government while implementing the odd-even plan for plying of private vehicles from the 1st of next month. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi last evening and discussed the proposal. The Ministry said in a release that the Delhi Government should think about the emergency vehicles, classified or not, and those of the differently-abled. <br/><br/>It said, of the 88 lakh vehicles, 57 lakh registered in Delhi are 2-wheelers and it should be thought upon, that they relatively belong to less well-off persons, who may be living in areas which are not within easy access of effective public transportation.<br/>The Ministry also said a clear policy on the visitors should be there from nearby towns such as Chandigarh, Ambala, Rohtak, Alwar, Rewari, etc. <br/><br/>During the meeting, Mr Singh expressed concern over the growing levels of pollution not only in Delhi but in the entire NCR region. The Union Home Minister also expressed view that the Delhi government needs to look at long-term solution even with regard to vehicles by suggesting to examine the feasibility of phasing out non-CNG vehicles from the region in the next three to five years. <br/><br/>Talking to the reporters after the meeting, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, single women drivers and patients may be kept out of the scheme to ensure their safety.
