Oceansat-2 satellites launched

PSLV in its fifteenth successive mission today injected the 960 kg Oceansat-2 into orbit 18 minutes after lift-off at an altitude of 728 km. About 45 seconds later, four of the six nano satellites were separated in sequence. A press release issued by ISRO said the initial signals indicate normal health of the satellites. Oceansat-2 is the sixteenth remote sensing satellite of India and carried three payloads. Oceansat 2 will help in identifying fishing zones, predict the onset of monsoons and monitor coastal water pollution. The remote sensing satellite will also probe the important role played by the oceans in shaping the earth’s climate. The auxiliary payloads of PSLV-C14 are educational satellites from European Universities and are intended to test new technologies.
