The Prime Minister's Advisor on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations, Sam Pitroda says the objective of National Innovation Council is to ensure inclusive growth. In an exclusive interview with AIR correspondent, he said, a five thousand crore rupee fund will be created to put a premium on innovative ideas to spur growth. Mr. Pitroda said the Council in its first meeting decided to focus on promotion of a new model of inclusive innovation which can provide solutions to the problems for the people living below poverty line. It was also decided in the meeting that there is a need for innovation in public services delivery and encourage multi disciplinary and globally competitive approaches for innovation. In response to a specific query on his invention of a digital wallet, Mr. Pitroda said it will save time wasted in payment of bills, facilitate small amount transactions, discourage the use of plastic credit or debit cards and save the use of paper. He said it will also provide access to financial services to those people who are not having banking facilities. Talking about the status of implementation of the recommendations of the National Knowledge Commission, he said, most of the recommendations are being implemented to pave the way for India to emerge as a knowledge hub in the 21st century. He asserted that reforms are necessary in core areas of access to knowledge, concepts, creation, application and services.
