Oberoi reopens for public after 26/11 terror attack

The Oberoi, one of the three luxury hotels, which was stormed by militants on the night of26/11 in the city, reopens today The hotel that was badly damaged during the attacks and lost around 35 people, including 10 of its staff, has since undergone massive restoration and renovation. The hotel has been completely transformed to offer the highest standards of facilities.<br/><br/>The hotel will now offer contemporary, luxurious ambiance with a touch of Indian charm. The inside restaurants which directly came in the line of fire will have a new appearance. Some of its familiar restaurant names such as Kandahar, Tiffin and The Bayview bare have been consigned to memory. Tiffin, which is an extension of the lobby and was directly in the line of fire, has been resurrected in its new avatar as Fenix. Similarly, Kandahar that specialises in Indian cuisine is now Ziya, while the bar has been christened as Eau, the French word for water. <br/><br/>Oberoi Hotels & Resorts' President, Liam Lambert, told reporters that they have not yet assessed the total cost. But the (renovation cost) is between USD 35-40 million. Lambert has also said the total insurance claim for damage to the property and loss of profit were still being assessed. <br/>
