The U.S. President Barack Obama says he is still hoping for bipartisan support for his programme to bring down the nation's unemployment rate. The president met on Wednesday at the White House with top lawmakers from both major political parties. Republicans in Congress have opposed almost all of President Obama's economic initiatives refusing to give him a single vote in the Senate or House of Representatives.<br/>The president met with Republican and Democratic leaders to campaign for his jobs programme. Afterward, he said he hopes lawmakers will put partisan politics aside.<br/>
