The economic dimension of the Indo-US ties would be the focus of President Barack Obama's India visit next week as the US administration considers it as the most important emerging economic bilateral relationship. Deputy National Security Advisor Michael Froman told reporters in Washington at a special briefing on India that with 1.2 billion people and an economy expected to grow at 8 per cent over several years, the US sees India as a potentially very important market for US exports.Participating in the briefing, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns said, India's rise on the global stage is in the strategic interest of the US, and the two countries had a lot to gain by high-tech cooperation and innovation. He said, the Indo-US partnership has been a genuine bipartisan priority in America for some years now. Mr. Burns said, President Obama has termed the relationship a defining partnership of the 21st century. Terming the two countries as natural partners, Burns said, both are the world's two largest democracies and are big, diverse tolerant societies besides having the distinction of the world's largest economies. He said, both have an increasing stake in global stability and prosperity, especially across Asia and the Pacific.
