Obama snubs Iran Prez over ‘offensive’ remarks

US President Barack Obama has condemned the comments by Iranian President Mehmoud Ahmedinejad at the United Nations on Thursday suggesting that the US Government was behind the September 11 attacks. In an interview with the BBC Persian Television, Obama drew a contrast between Ahmedinejad's remarks and expressions of sympathy from the ordinary Iranians at the time. President Obama was personally hurt by the comments on the 9/11 made by his Iranian counterpart. Obama said the remarks were particularly offensive and hateful since they were made near Manhattan so close to the place where families had lost their loved ones. The Iranian Government, he said, has taken Iran on a path which led to international condemnation. He said Iran had not been able to convince the international community that its nuclear programme was peaceful.
