Obama promises to reduce oil imports by a third by 2021

US President Barack Obama has promised the Americans to reduce oil imports by one-third in a little more than a decade. In a speech in Washington on Wednesday, he said, the US has to get serious about secure and affordable energy. He said, the US must move towards getting 80 per cent of its electricity from non-oil sources by 2035. Obama said, higher oil prices are threatening to hamper the economic recovery and there was growing dissatisfaction among the people over oil prices.
