US President Barack Obama hosted an Iftaar party at the White House during which he highlighted the role of faith in the lives of Americans. In his remarks after the Iftaar party held at the State Dinner room of the White House last night, he said, the US had a tradition of hosting Iftaars that went back several years, just as they host Christmas parties, seders and Diwali celebrations. Sitting in his audience was Indian Ambassador to the US Meera Shankar one of the few non-Muslim diplomats attending the Iftaar. Obama said that these events remind the people of the basic truth that they are all children of God, and they all draw strength and a sense of purpose from the beliefs.
