O.Panneerselvam has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu alongwith the Council of Ministers. Governor Dr.K.Rosaiah administered the oath of office to Mr.Panneerselvam and the Council of Ministers. The ceremony was a low key affair at Raj Bhavan and was not a moment of celebration for the party. This is for the second time that Mr.Panneerselvam was sworn in as the Chief Minister.
As the AIADMK Supremo Ms.Jayalalithaa was convicted in the 18 year old over Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case, she lost the position of being an elected member of the legislative Assembly and also the Chief Ministership. It was Jayalalithaa who chose Mr.Panneerselvam, a loyalist to the party for the post of Chief Minister.
On the other hand, AIADMK workers are holding protests in a peaceful manner all over Tamil Nadu including Chennai. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that Centre is keeping an eye on the situation in the state.
Replying to a media query on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today, Mr Singh said, Home Secretary Anil Goswami has talked to the state Chief Secretary and Director General of Police and if required, the Centre will provide all possible help to the state.
