An Army Court of Inquiry has recommended disciplinary action against 168 personnel of an artillery unit for their role in a clash between officers and jawans in Nyoma, Ladakh in May last year.
The Northern Army Commander has confirmed the recommendations of the court of inquiry for disciplinary action against the personnel including the then Commanding Officer of the 226 Field Regiment , three other officers, 17 Junior Commissioned Officers and 147 jawans.
Army sources said the disciplinary action may also lead to court martial of the concerned army personnel. The officers and men had clashed during a firing practice session at Mahe firing range near Nyoma where women were also present without proper authorisation. Three officers, including the CO, and eight jawans of the unit were injured in the fracas. A day after the incident, the Army had ordered the court of inquiry.
