Number of UK troops in Afghanistan unlikely to go down

Britain's Conservative leader David Cameron has warned that a cut in UK troop levels in Afghanistan would be pretty unlikely next year. Mr Cameron said he backed government strategy of handing over areas to Afghan control but it should be based on success and not on artificial timelines. He said the troop surge led by US President Barack Obama was NATO's last best chance for success. On Friday, Mr Cameron visited British troops in Helmand in Afghanistan and said he wanted to help the mission in whatever way he could, stressing that the faster they succeed, the faster they can come home.<br/>
