BJP today claimed that the number of farmer suicides had come down under the NDA government due to pro-farmer measures taken by it. <br/><br/>Reacting to opposition attack on Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh's reply in the Rajya Sabha in which he has blamed love affairs and impotency as some of the reasons for farmers' suicide, the party said Mr. Singh's remarks were taken out of context. <br/><br/>In a statement, the BJP said Mr. Singh had cited the data provided by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and it was not the Agriculture Ministry's job to collate figures of farmers'suicides.<br/><br/>Alleging that sections of media distorted the reply of Minister to reach fabricated conclusions, the party said the previous UPA government had also given similar replies in Parliament. <br/><br/>It also cited official figures to claim that the number of suicides by farmers had come down under the NDA rule. <br/><br/>The Party said according to the NCRB data,11,772 farmers committed suicide in 2013 while due to positive steps taken by the present government, the numbers came down to 5,650 in 2014.
