A National Urban Livelihoods Mission, NULM, to address the issues of urban poor is on the anvil. Skill upgradation, entrepreneurship development and providing credit to the urban poor at affordable rates will be the prime focus of the mission to be launched in the 12th five year plan.
This was stated by Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Shelja while addressing the National consultation on Mission Mode Approach to Urban Livelihood in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Kumari Shelja said that, NULM will help the urban poor in utilising the opportunities of wage employment and self employment created by the economic growth in the urban areas.
She added that all programmes and policies for the poor in urban areas will be converged under the NULM so that benefits can reach the targeted section.
