Nuke Security Summit will strengthen global initiatives on nuclear security: India

India on Sunday said that the nuclear Security Summit in Washington will strengthen the International resolve to cooperate on nuclear security. The two day summit which is being held amidst growing concerns of nuclear weapons falling in the hands of terrorists will discuss ways to strengthen global initiatives to prevent this. The Summit, being held at the initiative of US President Barrack Obama will be attended by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and 42 other world leaders. <br/><br/>Briefing media on the summit to be held on the 12th and 13th of this month, the foreign secretary Mrs. Nirupama Rao said that there are concerns in India with regard to terrorism and the possible acquisition of nuclear devices and material by terrorist groups. Mrs. Rao said that given these concerns as well as its interest in the expansion of civil nuclear energy, the conference will benefit India. She said that India has contributed substantively to the summit preparations. <br/><br/>The Summit will discuss threat of nuclear terrorism, dangers posed by clandestine proliferation and illicit trafficking of nuclear material and the possibility of terrorists acquiring nuclear material. National measures and international cooperation to enhance nuclear security will be discussed. <br/><br/>The Summit will also be addressed by the Director General of IAEA which plays primary role in the promotion of peaceful uses of Nuclear energy. An outcome document is also expected at the end of the summit. AIR correspondent says that the setting up of an International National Safety Centre in India is likely to be proposed at the summit.<br/>
