The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has expressed the hope that the Nuclear Security Summit will focus on nuclear terrorism and proliferation of sensitive nuclear materials and technologies.<br/><br/>In his staement ahead of his visit to the United States and Brazil beginning tomorrow, Dr Singh noted that these are legitimate concerns which require firm responses. He said India has a well developed indigenous nuclear energy programme, which dates back six decades. <br/><br/>Dr Singh asserted that New Delhi has an impeccable record of security, safety and non-proliferation which reflects India's conduct as a responsible nuclear power. <br/><br/>The Prime Minister while hailing US President's initiative to hold a Summit on Nuclear Security he said that nuclear energy is poised to play a growing role in addressing the developmental challenges of Present times. He added that this will be possible only if individual nations and global community ensure the highest standards of security.<br/><br/>Dr Singh said, India has been a consistent advocate of complete and universal global nuclear disarmament and is among the first countries in the world to call for a world free of nuclear weapons. He called for more meaningful dialogue to achieve this objective.<br/><br/>Refering to the bilateral meetings during his stay in Washington, he said he is looking forward to hold discussions with President Obama, President Nazarbaev of Kazakhstan, President Sarkozy of France, Prime Minister Harper of Canada and other world leaders.<br/><br/>Talking about his visit to Brazil where he will attend the fourth IBSA Summit and the second BRIC Summit, he said, these groupings reflect the growing role of emerging economies in shaping the global economic order. <br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that the Prime Minister will hold separate bilateral discussions with the Brazilian President Lula da Silva. He will also have bilateral meetings with President Hu Jintao of China and President Dmitry Medvedev of Russia.
