The government today introduced the Nuclear Safety Regulatory Authority Bill 2011 in the Lok Sabha. The bill aims at establishing an authority for the regulation of radiation and nuclear safety. It also envisages the establishment of a Council of Nuclear Safety to oversee and review the policies relating to radiation and nuclear safety. It was introduced by the Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Mr. V Narayansamy.
AIR correspondent reports that taking lessons from Fukushima Nuclear disaster in Japan, the government had announced for setting up such authority and safety measure in 22 Nuclear power plants in the country.
The government today informed the Lok Sabha that it will participate in the Nuclear Security Summit scheduled to be held next year in South Korea. In a written reply, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Mr. V Narayansamy said that the summit will discuss issues relating to nuclear security as follow up to the first Nuclear security summit held in United States of America last year.
