Nuclear liability Bill not introduced in Lok Sabh today

The Bill providing for civil liability for nuclear damage has not been introduced. The Bill was scheduled to be introduced in the Lok Sabha today. <br/><br/>The Speaker Mrs. Meira Kumar has said that she has been informed by the Minister of State in PMO Mr. Prithviraj Chavan that the government does not intend to introduce the Bill today. <br/><br/>The move comes in the wake of apprehensions voiced by several parties including the Left and the BJP on the Bill. Senior BJP leader, Mr L K Advani said the government has the responsibility to inform the house why a bill, which was listed in the business today, is not being taken up.<br/><br/>Later speaking to newsmen the Information and Broadcasting Minister Mrs. Ambika Soni said that the Bill has not been introduced due to any pressure but the government believes in dialogue and interaction with all shades of opinion.<br/><br/>Earlier, talking to reporters outside Parliament, the BJP spokesman, Prakash Javdekar said that his party is opposed to the Bill as it is against the interests of the country.<br/><br/>CPI leader Mr. Gurudas Das Gupta said that the Bill is against the Supreme Court order and government cannot be a third party guarantor in this case.<br/>
