Nuclear deal, strategic, economic ties focus of PM’s Japan visit

Civil nuclear cooperation and strengthening strategic and global partnership will be focus of discussions between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.

Dr. Singh is reaching Tokyo on a three day state visit later this evening. Discussions on security and energy sectors will also remain high on the agenda.

In his departure statement, Dr. Manmohan Singh said that full potential of comprehensive economic partnership will be explored by intensifying and balancing bilateral trade and investment linkages.

The Prime Minister said that his visit to Japan and Thailand will add new meaning to India's Look East Policy and contribute to peace, prosperity and stability in the Asia Pacific Region.
A high level official delegation is accompanying the Prime Minister.

The summit meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Japan is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
