NTPC NVVNL to procure 1,000 MW solar power by 2013

NTPC Vidyut Vapyar Nigam Ltd (NVVNL), a wholly-owned trading arm of NTPC and the national nodal agency, has decided to procure solar power up to 1,000 MW by 2013."We hope to procure 1,000 MW of solar power for the grid by 2013," NTPC Director (commercial) Inderjit Kapoor said today on the sidelines of the forthcoming NTPC FPO.The company will mix solar power tariff with the unallocated thermal power before pushing it into the grid fora final price of Rs 5-5.50 a unit."After making cost calculation, it was found that the solar photovoltaic power would have to be bought at Rs 18.30 per unit and solar thermal at Rs 13.50 per unit. But, bundled with thermal energy it will come to Rs 5- 5.50 per unit," Kapoor said. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), in its new solar mission road map has converged state tariffs with central tariff for solar power.Across the country there will be uniform tariff for solar energy.Kapoor said that while NTPC would enter into long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with solar power developers, it would enter into long-term power selling agreements with those agencies which bought 'bundled power'.NTPC s plan of purchasing 1,000 MW depended much on the success of national solar mission, which had envisaged 20,000 MW of solar power by 2022.
