NSIC to set up 10 incubation centers in African countries

The National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC)—a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises—is setting up incubation centers in 10 African countries, including Zambia, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Libya, Rwanda and Ethiopia. The projects to be set up include concrete block manufacturing plants, tomato ketchup and fruit juice making plants and paper corrugated box manufacturing plants.Other projects include wire nail manufacturing, soya milk extraction, water treatment and honey processing plants, manufacturing of plastic shopping bags and gem stone cutting and polishing machines.AIR correspondent reports the NSIC model of incubation is a unique one where budding entrepreneurs are trained for establishing small enterprises. The funding for the project would be done by the Ministry of External Affairs under the discussions held during the India-Africa forum summit held in 2008.
