NSA releases JWG Report on cyber security

National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon has said the challenge in any effort for ensuring cyber security was to do it without impinging on one's personal freedom.

Mr Menon released the recommendations of Joint Working Group, JWG on engagement with private sector on cyber security in New Delhi.

He said recent incidents of spread of misinformation on the social media necessitated the need to strengthen efforts for cyber security. On the need for a partnership with the private sector, Mr Menon said that the private sector leads the development and adoption of ICT, it is imperative for the Government and the private sector to collaborate and work together to overcome the challenges of cyber security.

AIR correspondent reports that keeping this in view the Government decided to set up a joint working group to work out details of the roadmap for engagement with the private sector on cyber security. The JWG, which included representatives of the Government as well as the private sector, has recommended creation of Information Sharing and Analysis Centres, ISACs in various industry verticals by the private sector.

JWG has suggested that training be provided to law

enforcement agencies, LEAs in cyber crime investigation and

cyber forensics by establishing training facilities and developing training materials and investigation manuals.

It has also recommended promoting and dissemination of cyber security awareness among the public through mutual collaboration

and establishment of an institute of cyber security professionals

of India for capacity building in security testing and auditing.

The JWG has recommended a roadmap for PPP on cyber security

which includes setting up of an institutional framework, capacity

building in the area of cyber security, development of cyber

security standards and assurance mechanisms, augmentation of

testing and certification facilities for IT products.
