NSA in talks with SL for Tamil resettlement

National Security Advisor Mr Shivshankar Menon has said that New Delhi is continuing to engage with Colombo on resettlement of internally displaced Tamils and devolution of powers that would satisfy all sections of its people. He was speaking to newsmen after a meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr M.Karunanidhi in Chennai on Sunday morning. Describing his meeting as courtesy call, Mr Menon said the chief minister expressed his concern on the treatment of Tamil fishermen in Srilanka and on the condition of those displaced in the island country. The NSA said he had assured Mr Karunanidhi that centre will do whatever it call in dealing with the problems.

Meanwhile, following the outcry of the international rights group accusing the Sri Lankan authorities of harassment of critical media, Presidential Secretariat sources said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has revoked the decision to cancel the visa of the Swiss journalist who is in Sri Lanka to cover the Presidential elections. The journalist of a Swiss radio station was earlier ordered to leave by Monday, the government information department said. Karin Wenger of Swiss Public Radio had said that she was sent a letter by the Immigration Controller, saying that she must leave the island before Monday and that her application for a media accreditation card had been denied.
