NRI marriages: Govt providing help to aggrieved women, says Sushma

External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj today assured the Lok Sabha that her ministry is taking various steps to provide assistance to the aggrieved women, those who complained that their non-resident Indian spouse is already married or has a partner.<br/><br/> Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Mrs Swaraj said, the ministry has launched Grievance Redressal Portal Madad in February last year to resolve the grievances under marital disputes category. She said, since January this year, the ministry has received 362 complaints by post and email related to NRI marriages of which 344 have been addressed.<br/><br/>Mrs Swaraj said, her ministry is also providing information about legal options available to the Indian women, procedures to be followed for serving of judicial summons on the NRI husband. The minister also informed the House that many Indian missions have designated Open House meetings during which any distressed Indian national can approach the Mission for assistance and guidance. <br/><br/>Mrs Swaraj also said, Women and Child Development ministry has recently constituted an Inter-ministerial committee which will submit recommendations about the legal and procedural hurdles faced by Indian women married to NRIs.
