NRI affairs should be brought directly under State Home Minister: Balbir

Punjab Minister for NRI Affairs, Capt. Balbir Singh Bath has said that the department of NRI affairs should be brought directly under the State Home Minister so that those non-resident Indians facing any problem back home can approach him for the redressal. Speaking to our Jalandhar Correspondent Rajesh Bali, Capt. Bath said those NRIs who have deserted their wives in Punjab will not be spared. He said that he had recently written to Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Parneet Kaur about this problem and the need to have a law at National level to curb this menace. He said Mrs. Parneet Kaur has assured to look into it. He said he has brought the problem of deserted wives into the notice of the Canadian Consulate General to India, Scott Slaisar also for help from Canadian government. He said the state government is in the process of setting up an NRI commission for the welfare of Punjabi NRIs.
