NRHM scam: Lucknow bench reserves judgment on petition seeking CBI probe

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has reserved its judgment on public interest litigation PIL, seeking CBI probe into the alleged embezzlement of funds of the National Rural Health Mission, NRHM projects across Uttar Pradesh.A division bench of the court of Justice Pradeep Kant and Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi has not fixed any date for pronouncing the judgment. The state government had told the court that as the CAG was already conducting an audit of the NRHM schemes, involving the CBI into the case would not be appropriate. The centre however told that only CBI probe will be able to bring the truth about the allegations of misuse of funds.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the same bench had earlier ordered a CBI inquiry into the irregularities of NRHM projects in Lucknow. The CBI has registered two cases relating to alleged irregularities in the funds allotted to the National Rural Health Mission at the office of Chief Medical Officer in the state capital, Lucknow. The financial irregularities were detected during investigation into the murder of the then CMO Dr. B P Singh, who was shot dead in Gomti Nagar area on April 2 this year.
