NRHM Assam: Succeeds in reaching masses through AIR

In Assam, National Rural Health Mission, NRHM has successfully reached the masses through All India Radio. In a bid to disseminate health related information, All India Radio in association with NRHM and UNICEF broadcast a special programme series ASHA Radio since September 2007.224 episodes of the series have been broadcast so far .Tarulata, Bakuli Jethai and Nanda Master has become familiar to the listeners. These 3 main characters narrated the health related issues in infotainment way .So far issues like role and responsibility of ASHAs, safe drinking water, family planning, benefits of various health schemes have been discussed. The programme is aired twice a week through Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Tezpur and Silchar station of AIR. Assam government already provided free Radio-set to all ASHA workers of the state.Pre-paid post cards with printed address of Guwahati centre of All India Radio has also given to ASHAs so that their queries can be discussed during the programme.So far over 80 thousand letters on various topics have been received.The ASHA Radio programme helped the Assam government to obtain feed back on the NRHM programme along with providing all the informations to ASHAs.
