In Assam, National Rural Health Mission has achieved remarkable success in promoting the family planning methods including minority populace. Official sources said that from 2009 till October 2011, 31 thousand male sterilisation, 1 lakh 64 thousand female sterilisation and around 1 lakh 31 thousand IUCD Insertion had been conducted across the state.AIR correspondent reports, various data shows that the people are accepting the family planning methods that have been adopted by the health department. Recent RGI survey reports said that Total Fertility Rate in Assam stood at 2 point 6 percent in comparison to 2 point 7 percent in the year 2005. Assam has also recorded decrease rate in terms of decadal population growth. As per latest census report, it is 16.93, where as in previous decade it was recorded at 18.85. Apart from it, DLHS report said that 49 percent of married women have been using contraceptive methods. All these success occurred due to the awareness measures adopted by the NRHM.Due to this effort, minority population of Dhubri, Goalpara, Cachar, Nagaon districts are also adopting the family planning methods. The District Media expert of Nagaon,Maroof Alam said that as a part of the campaign, Maulabi and other religious leaders urged the people of their community to adopt these methods .Last year, NRHM awarded Nagaon district for their success in family planning.
